WELCOME PM MODI JI BY BETI BACHAO, BETI PADHAO(SAVE GIRLS, EDUCATE GIRLS) CAMPAINGER, UK.

In January 2018 Bharulata became aware of the PM Modiji’s visit to London to attend London Commonwealth Summit in April 2018. She was enthusiastic but could not demonstrate my enthusiasm to her team due to her forthcoming cancer surgery and uncertainties of her health associated with such type of surgery. Needless to say, as soon as she returned back to UK from India she became over occupied with various hospital visits in readiness for surgery and further associated treatments. This resulted her having to leave the plans for PM welcome till last minute, and she felt if she is well enough to do something by April 2018, then certainly the Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao (Save Girls, Educate Girls) campaigner team would be able to handle things even at last minute. She discussed this with her coordinator Mrs Sulekha Davda, who agreed with her, and assured her that the team has confidence on Bharulata’s last-minute planning and coming up with ideas at last minute, and they will assist her if something is planned by the community.

It was an honour to be invited and attending the launch of a new project of my friend Miss Davinder Bansal Jumbo cinema to support Miss Davinder Bansal, one of the rare example of Indian origin girl in UK as theatre producer. As it is theatre plays are becoming less and less with a passage of time and technology taking over many things. The project is called Jambo Cinema took place for a month till 26 November 2017 at Wolverhampton Art Gallery, Lichfield St, Wolverhampton WV1 1DU. Jambo Cinema is inspired by Davinder’s personal experience personal experiences of growing up in her parents’ corner shop which sold electrical supplies and also rented VHS video films to the newly arrived and established Indian and Pakistani migrant communities in Wolverhampton.

It was an amazing experience to step inside ‘Jambo Cinema’ and to experience Uncle & Aunty Bansal’s Indian-Kenyan 1980s era living room. Guests were able to explore the room, only if they take off their shoes first! It was absolutely amazing to experience this authentic living room with original memorabilia, photographs, items and Bollywood VHS films reflecting Indian families at the time.
